Bomb Alert 'A Hoax'
A security alert in Co Armagh has ended. An object has this afternoon been declared an elaborate hoax and has been taken away for further examination by Army technical officers who attended the scene on the outskirts of Craigavon earlier today. Sugar Island Road, in the Bleary area - which was closed to traffic earlier - has now reopened. Last Friday, a bomb was made safe by Irish Army experts in Donegal town. Fall Girl Buried
There were scenes of open grief as hundreds of people yesterday attended the funeral of a six-year-old Londonderry girl who died after falling from a tree near electricity cables. Tia Nagurski was climbing a tree in a residential area of Ballymagroarty when she fell on Thursday. The mourners at Holy Family Church were led by her parents, Natasha and Brian, and outside, members of Tia's Jiu Jitsu club formed a guard of honour.
Knife Robbers Sought
Two men armed with knives have robbed commercial premises in west Belfast. The PSNI officers attended the scene at around 6pm on Saturday that the men had threatened staff at the store on the Stewartstown Road. They then made off with a quantity of cash and cigarettes. One female member of staff sustained bruising to her shoulder during the raid after being struck with the handle of one of the knives.
Golf Club Hit
Scrabo Golf Club was robbed at the weekend. Two members of staff at the Newtownards club were confronted at around 1.30am on Saturday by three males who threatened them and demanded that they hand over money before making off. It is understood that no weapons were used. The PSNI said that two men were arrested in a follow-up search and a sum of cash was recovered.
Assault Probed
A 25-year-old man has been hit over the head with a gun in west Belfast. He was attacked at a house in Glenbawn Park in Lagmore on Friday night after refusing to open the back door. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment but his injury is not life-threatening. Police are working to establish a motive for the attack.
Swimmers Praised
SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh Dominic Bradley has praised the organisers and participants in the Camlough world record relay swim. After visiting the event, Mr Bradley said: ''The Camlough world record relay swim has given the area and its people a tremendous boost at the end of what was a poor summer. The sun has shone on the event and brought hundreds of people out to support the swimmers and enjoy the weather and the beautiful lakeside location. Events like this project a very positive image of our area and present some of the best we have to offer far and wide," he commented.
Poots Backs Open Day
Environment Minister Edwin Poots has visited Castle House, Lisburn, as part of the European Heritage Open Days initiative. This festival of culture and built heritage which is organised by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency is designed to encourage people of all ages to discover Northern Ireland's rich architecture, which is part of our wider European heritage. The Minister was one of thousands of people who took part in over 260 events across Northern Ireland this weekend, which includes the opening of many buildings that are otherwise closed throughout the year.
Walking Trails Boosted
The Stormont Minister for Rural Development, Michelle Gildernew has launched this year's National Trails Day. Held on Sunday 4 October it is a celebration of the variety of trails in Ireland, north and south, and provides an opportunity for everyone to enjoy some of our most beautiful countryside, forests, mountains and lakes. Speaking after launching National Trails Day, jointly with her southern counterpart Eamonn O Cuiv in Dublin, the Minister said she was particulwas particularly pleased that the NI Forest Service was taking part in the all-Ireland event. Lurgan Gets Facelift
Craigavon Borough Council has offered Lurgan high street businesses the chance to enhance their exterior through a new Shop Front Improvement Scheme. The innovative scheme, which offers grants towards external improvements to shop premises, is available to all independent retailers in the town. Chair of the council's Development Committee, Alderman Sydney Anderson, said: "In the current economic climate it is often difficult for independent businesses to find the money they require to improve their business. This is an excellent opportunity for shopkeepers in Lurgan to avail of grants which can help give their shop premises a facelift which could help increase their customer base."

Belfast Event Grant Opens To Applications
A funding package of £200,000 has been launched for the Belfast City Centre Event Grant Scheme with applications encouraged. The Department for Communities scheme will support arts, cultural and community based events and activities taking place in the city centre between April 2019 and March 2020.
