Fermanagh Bomb Alert Cleared

This morning's security operation in Co Fermanagh, during which 14 families had to be evacuated from their homes, has ended.

Police have said that nothing was discovered during Wednesday's operation.

Earlier, the PSNI closed off a rural road near the border as a suspected abandoned bomb was sought.

The closure of the B36 between Rosslea and Dresternan led to diversions being put in place as the operation - which centred on the Lisnaskea Road - took place.

Police said the security operation came about after officers were made aware of various claims made about explosive devices left or abandoned in the area.

More than a dozen families were moved from their homes following the warnings about abandoned bombs.

The discovery of a 600lb bomb in south Armagh last week underlined the need for "a careful and controlled response," police said.

They said a search was necessary because of "a small number of criminals who appear intent on disrupting the lives of businesses and residents of the area".
