Contracts Worth £millions Secured
Over 240 companies have between them won contracts valued at £17 million since participating in a special cross-border initiative.
They took part in InterTradeIreland's all-island public procurement programme, Go-2-Tender.
Despite the continued effects of the recession, the all-island public procurement proved to be a "major business opportunity worth over £15billion" according to Operations Director Margaret Hearty.
"The market offers much needed opportunities for businesses to help them generate sales and improve their competitiveness in an economic environment which has become increasingly volatile and hard to predict," she said.
She suggested that, as competition continues to intensify across the island, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) should look "islandwide to generate sales and offset decreasing rates of public expenditure in their own jurisdiction".
"The Go-2-Tender workshops offer these companies expert advice on how best to do just that," she continued.
Having just completed another series of sell-out workshops in Lisburn last week Ms Hearty continued: "Uptake for the Go-2-Tender workshops has been exceptional and in order to meet an ever-growing demand, we intend to announce a further series later this month."
Chris Taylor of Lisburn company Brookvent attended the recent workshops and explained how he felt it could benefit his business: "Attending the course was time well spent.
"It helped me understand how public sector bodies buy goods and services, how to find new tender opportunities, the tendering process itself and ultimately what buyers are looking for," he concluded.
