Jobs Boost At Carrick Sainsbury's
A supermarket expansion in Co Antrim is set to result in employment opportunities for many more staff than are presently employed.
The major jobs boost begins this week as Sainsbury's begins recruiting 150 new employees for its new store in Carrickfergus.
The store - which was recently acquired from the Co-Op - will not only offer jobs to the existing 40 staff, but will also boost this by recruiting at least 150 additional workers.
The UK supermarket chain is already taking on new staff at another location.
Their new west Belfast store - at the Kennedy Centre - which opened earlier this month - is also recruiting 40 extra staff in the coming weeks as it has been trading "beyond initial expectations".
David Davidson, Regional Operations Manager for Sainsbury's Northern Ireland, (pictured) said: "We recruited more than 100 colleagues in west Belfast in advance of the opening while retaining in the region of 250 existing jobs, so 40 new colleagues at this site will be another welcome boost.
"We are delighted at how the store has been trading to date and at our customers response to the Sainsbury’s offering in west Belfast," he said.
David Davidson added: "We are really looking forward to starting the recruitment process in Carrickfergus and to welcoming existing Co-Op staff to Sainsbury's.
"We are expecting a lot of interest in these jobs - which in Carrickfergus are across all disciplines of the business."
The positions will be open for applications from this week and people can apply by visiting the Sainsbury's website at www.sainsburys.co.uk and clicking on the 'careers' section.

Sainsbury's Reveals New NI Boss
Supermarket chain Sainsbury's has appointed a new man to head up Northern Ireland operations. Neil Chason, moves to a new post as Regional Operations Manager in NI, having filled the same role in the north East of England. He replaces David Davidson, who retains responsibility for stores in Scotland.

There's no superstition in sight in Co Down as Sainsbury's 13th store in Northern Ireland opened its doors today at Balloo Retail Park in Bangor. Some 250 new staff will be employed in the 70,000 sq. ft. store, which has 41,000 sq. ft. of retail space and represents a multi-million pound investment for Sainsbury's.
