Eye In The Sky

The RAF says a new type of camera is giving pilots in Afghanistan a clearer picture of enemy forces. The Raptor (Reconnaissance Airborne Pod for Tornado) allows pilots to zoom in on ground activity from greater distances than before. The cameras cost £6m each and have been used in Afghanistan since Tornado jets arrived last June.

Swine Flu Hits School

A quarter of pupils at a West Lothian High school are off sick, some of them suffering from flu-like symptoms. About 300 Linlithgow Academy pupils have called in sick over the past few days, with 14 now confirmed as having swine flu. More than 100 have been showing symptoms of the virus. West Lothian Council has written to all parents as a precautionary measure but it stressed there were no plans to close schools in the area.

Rugby Star Charged

Newport Gwent Dragons - where former Wales rugby Captain Colin Charvis is defence coach - has declined to comment over news that he has been charged with drink-driving. The 36-year-old, who also played for the British and Irish Lions, was pulled over by South Wales Police and arrested on Sunday after a night out in Cardiff. He was capped in the back row for Wales 94 times and scored 22 international tries, will appear at the city's magistrates court on October 19.

Tyre Blaze Finally 'Out'

A fire in Co Londonderry - which had been burning at a tyre depot - since the weekend has been put out. Firefighters arriving to tackle the blaze on Sunday night found four separate fires across the one-acre site at Eglinton. It is thought as many as half a million tyres were being stored there. An investigation will now begin into whether the fire was started deliberately on what has been found to be an unlicensed storage site.

Two Held Over Stab Death

A 29-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman are being questioned by police after a 49-year-old man was fatally stabbed in his home in Surrey. Named by police as Kevin Ronald Francis, he was found seriously injured by officers who were called to Hurtwood Road, in Field Common, Walton-on-Thames, on Tuesday evening. A post mortem examination found Mr Francis died of stab wounds to the chest. Detectives said a knife had been recovered from the address.

Fire Damages News Student Block At Swansea Uni
An under construction student accommodation building at Swansea University has been damaged in a fire. Fire services were called at 10:45 on Friday morning to tackle the fire at a high rise block of flats on Fabian Way. Around 15 Mid and West Wales firefighters were involved in fighting the fire.

Police Investigating If Woman Was Trying To Save Dog When She Was Hit By Train
British Transport Police investigating the death of a woman have said that she may have been trying to save a dog when she was hit by a train. The 22-year-old woman was struck by a train close to Ainsdale station near Southport, Merseyside at about 15:00 on Wednesday. Transport police said a dog was also found dead at the scene.

Police Apology Over Paedophile Attack
A Welsh family who say they reacted "within seconds" of a paedophile taking their child - by making 999 calls and giving the police his name and a description of his car - have received an apology over the way the emergency was dealt with.

Former police officers arrested in Lynette White murder case
Five retired police officers have been arrested as part of an investigation into the murder of a Cardiff prostitute 17 years ago, South Wales police have confirmed. Twenty-year-old Lynette White was found murdered in a flat in the Butetown area of Cardiff on Valentine’s Day, 1988.
