Sky Customers To Download Hits
Sky is launching a new digital music service and is offering packages to customers with over four million tracks to download.
Sky Songs launches on October 19 and will be available to anyone in the UK with broadband.
The satellite broadcast giant will be taking on the mighty Apple's iTunes music store.
However, Sky - which was previously reported to be linked with the Universal Music Group for the venture - will supply hundreds of thousands of songs to the service.
It offers new releases and back catalogues from every major music label as well as a wide range of independent labels and distributors.
The first is £6.49 to download either a £6.49 album or 10 songs, and unlimited streaming of over four million songs online for one month.
The second option is to pay £7.99 and download either a £7.99 album or 15 songs as well as the unlimited listening access.
Customers can also purchase additional music on a per-track or per-album basis from 65p and £6.49 respectively.
To celebrate the launch, all Sky broadband customers who access the site will receive a free downloadable album worth £6.49.
Mike Darcey, Sky's Chief Operating Officer, said: "Our music partners bring an outstanding catalogue and unrivalled expertise that complements Sky's strengths in content distribution.
"Sky Songs will reach out to consumers who want legitimate digital services offering choice, ease of use and great value."
