Edinburgh Remains Are Missing Woman
The human remains found in a garden in Edinburgh earlier this week have been confirmed as those of missing woman Samantha Wright.
Miss Wright, 25, was last seen in the city on June 12 last year. She disappeared as she returned home from a visit to the Jobcentre in the High Riggs area.
Miss Wright, who was originally from Stevenage in Hertfordshire, was not reported missing until January this year, after she failed to contact her family over Christmas and on her birthday on January 5.
The remains were found on Monday after police began a search at an address in Magdalene Drive in the Duddingston area of Edinburgh.
Robert Chalmers, 57, was arrested and charged with perverting the course of justice in connection with the find and appeared before Edinburgh Sheriff Court today, where he was remanded in custody.
Police are continuing to appeal for further information in the case. Chief Inspector Paul Bullen of Lothian and Borders Police said: "We still, however, do not know what happened to Samantha between being viewed on CCTV footage in the east end of Edinburgh and being found here in Magdalene Drive."
