Nurse Jailed For Patient Assault
A psychiatric nurse has been sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a patient in his care.
The offences took place over several months from December 2006 to May 2008 when the female patient who he was supposed to be caring for was under section in west London.
DC Rachel Blackwell, from the Metropolitan Police's Sapphire team, said: "The overwhelming evidence we collected in this case resulted in the guilty plea by Matthew Jones. He completely abused his position of trust against a woman who was incredibly vulnerable and under his care.
"I hope this case helps encourage anyone else who may be similarly vulnerable who has been a victim of sexual assault to come forward and report any crimes against them.
"Abuse of people within the care system will not be tolerated and all allegations will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated."
Matthew Jones, age 30 , from Netley Road, Ilford, Essex, pleaded guilty on 21 August 2009 to six counts of section 38 Sexual Offences Act - in relation to a care worker engaging in sexual activity with a mentally disordered person.
He was sentenced on 20 October 2009 at Kingston Crown Court.

Controversial Teen Pill Scheme Launched
A controversial pilot scheme has been launched were teenagers as young as 13 can access the contraceptive pill without parental consent. The scheme, introduced on the Isle of White, will allow girls requesting the morning after pill to also receive a month's supply of the contraceptive pill.

Church choirmaster jailed for abuse
A church choirmaster has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for abusing boys in his choir. Peter Halliday, 61, from Farnborough in Hampshire admitted sexually abusing three boys in his care between 1985 and 1990 when he was organist and choirmaster at St Peter's Church in Farnborough. He pleaded guilty to ten charges of indecent assault.
