Clean Sweep On Eurostar
Contract cleaners working on Eurostar trains have called off a planned series of strikes over jobs and pay. The news comes after "positive discussions" between the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union and cleaning contractor Carlisle Group on Thursday. Staff at London's St Pancras International had planned to strike on 23 and 25 October and 6 and 8 November. Fresh talks will be held with Carlisle Group at the conciliation service Acas next week, the RMT said.
Welsh Journalist Remembered
A TV tribute will this weekend mark the career of Welsh broadcaster and journalist, Patrick Hannan, whose funeral is to be held at Coychurch Crematorium, Bridgend today. He reported on politics in Wales for more than 40 years, and died at the age of 68 after a short illness. A tribute programme, Patrick Hannan: Until then, goodbye, is screened on BBC One Wales on Sunday evening.
Power Station Protest 'Allowed'
A member of Unite Union has won his right to continue a peaceful protest outside a Scottish power station. Scottish and Southern Electricity (SSE) failed in its application for an interim injunction against Steve Acheson at the Royal Courts of Justice on 21st October. The firm had been seeking Steve Acheson's removal from outside the Fiddlers' Ferry power station near Warrington where he has been protesting against his dismissal by site contractors and against blacklisting for over nine months. The judge dismissed the application and ordered SSE to pay Mr Acheson's costs.
Taxing Time
Some 1.5 million pensioners have overpaid a total of £250m in tax since 2002-3, according to a report by the National Audit Office, which means an average of £171 each. This was due to discrepancies between tax authority records and tax deducted by employers and pension providers. Another 500,000 pensioners underpaid tax by an average of £207 each, and the the Audit Office has called on HM Revenue and Customs to provide a more coherent service.

Eggborough Power Station May Cease Operations
Eggborough Power Station may have to cease generating power by March 2016, subject to consultations with staff and government bodies. The coal-fired power station requires additional funding of £200m over the next three years to continue generating power, which the company says is "financially unsustainable" for the 53-year-old plant.

Legal Challenge On New Power Station
Campaigners have lodged papers at the Court of Session in Edinburgh which may halt the construction of a new power station in Ayrshire, it has been reported. Action group, Communities Opposed to New Coal at Hunterston (Conch), has appealed for a judicial review of the plans for the coal-fired power station at Hunterston.

Cockenzie Power Station To Be Demolished
Details regarding the demolition of the former Cockenzie Power Station site have been released. A controlled explosive demolition will take place at noon on Saturday 26 September which will involve the twin chimney stacks at the site being razed to the ground.

SSE To Close Ferrybridge Power Station
SSE has confirmed it is to close Ferrybridge Power Station. The energy provider said it had taken the "difficult decision" following a comprehensive review of its coal-fired power stations. The facility will close by 31 March 2016.
