Lords' Expenses To Be Cut
The parliamentary claims system for peers is to be radically overhauled, according to reports.
Accommodation allowances will be cut and all expenses will have to be backed up by receipts for the first time, the BBC has said.
It is believed the recommendations will be brought forward by the independent Senior Salaries Review Body (SSRB).
A review was launched following accusations some lords had abused the overnight allowance, which covers accommodation costs for members living outside London.
Non-salaried peers are eligible to claims £174 for overnight stays in the capital.
According to the BBC, this figure is set to drop to around £140.
However, no definite recommendations are expected to be made until Sir Christopher Kelly, chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, publishes his reforms of MPs' expenses.
Sir Christopher's framework is due to be made public on 4 November.
SSRB is said to want to link up its proposals with the changes to Commons rules.
Lord will no longer be able to claim for mortgages on second homes, however support will be provided for rental accommodation.
Daily administration allowances of £75 and the £86.50 a day for subsistence costs could be merged under the SSRB's recommendations, resulting in £170 running cost fee everyday a lord attends Westminster.
Meanwhile, former government minister Tony McNulty is being forced to pay back £13,000 in expenses claims by the parliamentary standards watchdog.
Mr McNulty, who denies any wrongdoing, claimed an allowance for a property owned by his parents.
It is believed he will be reprimanded and will later apologise to the Commons.

Footballer Released On Bail Over Underage Sex Claims
England and Sunderland footballer, Adam Johnson, has been released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of having sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl. The footballer, 27, was questioned by Durham Police on Monday. Sunderland AFC have suspended the player pending the outcome of the investigation.
