New Welsh Labour Leader
The Welsh Labour Party will select its new leader this evening.
Three party members have put themselves forward to succeed Rhodri Morgan.
All party members in Wales are eligible to vote, including all Assembly members, MPs and Euro MPs.
Carwyn Jones is widely tipped to take the post, ahead of Edwina Hart and Huw Lewis. All three contenders are AMs.
The winning candidate will not only lead Labour in the Assembly, but will later be sworn in as First Minister of Wales.
Campaigning began in October when Mr Morgan announced his intentions to stand down.
He has headed up the Welsh Assembly since 2000.
Mr Jones, 42, is currently the administration's chief legal adviser, and is responsible for pushing through Assembly business. He is the AM for Bridgend.
Health Minister, Mrs Hart is 52 and has served in the Morgan Cabinet for almost a decade.
Merthyr Tydfil AM, Mr Lewis, 45, chairs the Assembly's group on child poverty and is a former deputy minister for economy and transport.
It is thought the preference ballot will not result in a clear winner by the first count.
The first to gain more than 50% will prompt the lowest candidate to be eliminated. The first and second preference will then go head-to-head.
Preliminary results are expected at around 5.30pm this evening.
