Diamond Jubilee Holiday Plans
The UK will enjoy an extra Bank Holiday in 2012 to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, it was announced today.
A "nationwide celebration" will be held to honour the Queen's 60-year reign, Lord Mandelson said.
Multiple events are to take place during the first weekend of June to 2012, similar to those marking the Queen's Golden 50-year accession to the throne in 2002.
Lord Mandelson said the "truly historic occasion" would be complemented with an additional Bank Holiday, which would allow British people to show their "pride and affection" for Queen Elizabeth II.
Greenwich will become a royal borough following its long-standing association with the Windsor Family, the Government revealed.
A Diamond Jubilee Medal will also be commissioned.
