'Vile' Child Abuser Jailed
A Salford man has been jailed for sexually abusing his sister-in-law.
Eric Glynn Ryan, 55, of Kent Close, Little Hulton, was found guilty of three counts of sexual activity with a child at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court at an earlier hearing.
Ryan was sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for 10 years.
His victim, who has decided to waive her anonymity, was just 11-years-old when Ryan sexually abused her at his home.
This continued for two years.
Jane Nixon, now aged 43, reported the matter to police in February 2008, thirty years after she was abused.
Detective Constable Anne Smith of Salford's Public Protection Investigation Unit said: "Ryan not only abused Jane, he abused the trust she put in him as her brother-in-law.
"At just 11 years old, Jane should have been enjoying her childhood, but Ryan took that away from her.
"It has taken many years for her to find the strength to report the abuse she suffered but her courage has resulted in Ryan facing justice for his vile behaviour."
Ms Nixon said: "I am very proud of myself for finally getting this man, who stole my childhood, convicted. I had no support from my family - quite the opposite.
"Men who sexually abuse need to realise children eventually grow into adults and, when we are ready, we will report you and you will have to serve your time. Ryan told me no one would believe me but the jury did."
