Man Held Over Aggravated Burglary
A man has been charged after a couple were attacked in their Wythenshawe home. Robert Gregory, 26, of Newhall Drive, Northern Moor has been charged with aggravated burglary and theft and is next due before Manchester Crown Square Crown Court on 10 March 2010. On Friday 11 December 2009 a couple were assaulted by thieves in their home on Peel Hall Road. The three offenders then left the house empty handed.
Scottish Draft Housing Bill Welcomed
Shelter Scotland has welcomed the draft Housing (Scotland) Bill launched today by Alex Neil but urged the Scottish Government to go further in its reforms. The charity has argued for Right to Buy reform to be simplified. It is also arguing for better protection for social tenants from eviction and more emphasis on supporting people who have been homeless to stay in their homes. Graeme Brown, Director of Shelter Scotland, housing and homelessness charity, said: "Today's proposals to reform Right to Buy are an acknowledgement by Scottish Ministers that the policy is a relic of the past and has had its day. However the Scottish Government can and should go further by simplifying their complicated proposals. It should scrap Right to Buy for all people transferring from one home to another or who are succeeding to a tenancy."
'Miss' Gets Car Nicked
A teacher has had her car stolen by a thief who stole her keys and escaped in the vehicle from outside a Wolverhampton primary school. The thief snuck into a classroom of St Anthony's Catholic Primary School on Stafford Road, Fordhouses some time between 4.45pm and 5.05pm on Monday 11 January. The offender took the woman's laptop and handbag, containing the keys to her '55 reg' Mini Cooper. The silver coloured car was then taken from the staff car park of the school.

Record High For Scotland's Renewable Energy
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has said Scotland generated 7% more renewable energy in 2012 than the previous year. In its latest report, it said 14,600 Gigawatt hours were generated in Scotland from renewable energy sources such as wind and hydro.

A paedophile, who was a former car home manager, has been jailed for life for sexually assaulting children. John Allen, 73, subjected youngsters to sexual and violent abuse for decades. He was sentenced at Mold Crown Court after being convicted of 33 charges. He was cleared of two other serious assaults.

Scots Trust In UK Government 'Wavers'
The 2009 Scottish Social Attitudes Survey reveals that people trust the Scottish Government to act in Scotland's best interests rather than the UK government by a factor of more than two-to-one. The survey shows 61 per cent of people trusting the Scottish Government to act in Scotland's interests, compared to 25 per cent for the UK government.
