Prince On New Zealand Tour
Prince William has represented his grandmother in New Zealand as part of his first official Royal tour.
The Prince, 27, addressed dignitaries at the official opening of the country's new Supreme Court building.
Donned in a traditional Maori kiwi feathered cloak, William met with Prime Minister John Key.
He said New Zealand is "a nation that believes passionately in itself", while retaining ties with Britain.
Chiefs from the Maori community greeted the Prince with the hongi tradition of pressing noses and watched a group of warriors perform the haka.
William told those assembled: "The overwhelming impression I have is of a nation that believes passionately in itself, in the value of democracy, in each other and other peoples, and in the rule of law."
The Prince emphasized Queen Elizabeth's position as head of state, and did not appear detracted by republican demonstrators.
He also used his speech to express sympathy for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
William went on to discuss the close links and shared values of the Maori people and the British.
Nga Iwi O Taranaki, a chieftain in attendance, said afterwards: "Prince William is a chief and we welcomed him as a chief."
