Bridge Too Far

A major Cardiff city centre interchange has been closed while negotiators speak to a man who is on a road bridge. Police, the fire service, Welsh Ambulance Service and specialist police negotiators are speaking to an individual on the Gabalfa interchange. A South Wales Police spokesperson said the interchange will remain closed until the situation is resolved. There are heavy tailbacks of traffic on roads feeding into the interchange in all directions.

BA Woman 'Cross'

The Court of Appeal is to be asked to overturn a ruling that an airline did not religiously discriminate against a Christian British Airways (BA) employee has begun her appeal against a ruling which allowed the airline to stop her wearing a cross at work. Nadia Eweida, 57, of Twickenham, south-west London, returned to work for BA after the firm changed its uniform policy but is now claiming £120,000 in damages and lost wages. She wants the court to overturn a November 2008 decision by the Employment Appeal Tribunal that she was not a victim of religious discrimination.

Wales Considers Boiler Scheme

The Welsh Assembly is considering introducing a boiler scrappage scheme in Wales, Environment Minister Jane Davidson has announced. Wales will receive £4.074m from UK Government following the announcement of the scheme by the Chancellor. Ms Davidson said: "There has been a substantial amount of interest in this scheme since it was announced and I want to update people in Wales on proposals to introduce a similar scheme in Wales. "The Welsh Assembly Government is considering introducing a similar scheme in Wales, and we are currently working up a series of proposals taking into consideration the impact on those in fuel poverty, the relative carbon savings and value for money."

Appeal After Woman Attacked

West Midlands Police are appealing for help from the public to trace a man who attacked a Wolverhampton woman who asked him to move away from her house. The woman noticed a man sat on a wall adjoining her house on Newhampton Road West, at around 4pm on Wednesday January 6. She asked him to move, which led to him jumping off and then assaulting her, causing cuts and bruises. When the woman called for help, the offender ran off in an unknown direction. The man is described as black, with a dark complexion, aged 30-35 years, 6ft 2in tall, of stocky build, he had large bags under his eyes, short hair and a deep voice, with a broad Wolverhampton accent. He was wearing a black 'puffer' jacket with red stripes, a red baseball cap with a black 'Nike' tick, black Adidas jogging bottoms with three white stripes down to the knee, and dirty white trainers.

Former police officers arrested in Lynette White murder case
Five retired police officers have been arrested as part of an investigation into the murder of a Cardiff prostitute 17 years ago, South Wales police have confirmed. Twenty-year-old Lynette White was found murdered in a flat in the Butetown area of Cardiff on Valentine’s Day, 1988.

A Welsh family who say they reacted "within seconds" of a paedophile taking their child - by making 999 calls and giving the police his name and a description of his car - have received an apology over the way the emergency was dealt with.

Appeal For Information After Man Is Left Critical In Park Attack
South Wales Police are searching for a number of people in connection with a daytime attack on a 19-year-old man in a park in Cardiff. Police said the victim is in a critical condition in hospital following the attack, which happened on Monday at about 13:45 at Tremorfa park, Cardiff. It is understood the incident involved around 20 people.

Body Of Newborn Baby Found In Cardiff River
Police in Cardiff have reportedly recovered the body of a newborn baby from the River Taff. It is understood that South Wales Police were called to the scene at about 18:00 on Tuesday. The scene has been sealed and an investigation is underway. Police have appealed for information.

Two Men Charged Over Methyr Tydfil Heroin Seizure
Two men have been charged with possession with intent to supply following the discovery of heroin in Merthyr Tydfil. South Wales Police seized heroin worth an estimated £40,000, while executing a search warrant at an address in Thomas Dyke, Penydarren.
