Young Torture Duo Detained
Two 'sadistic' brother who carried out a horrendous physical and sexual attack on two young boys were locked away indefinitely today.
The south Yorkshire duo, who were 10 and 11 years old when they carried out the crime, threatened to kill their nine-year-old and 11-year-old victims in Edlington.
The brothers, who cannot be named because of their age, admitted causing grievous bodily harm. Today they were told they would serve a minimum five years.
Sheffield Crown Court heard how the brothers had subjected their victims to an ordeal lasting 90 minutes.
During that time the boys were beaten with bricks, stamped on and forced to perform sex acts.
Delivering his sentencing this morning, presiding judge Mr Justice Keith described the behaviour as "appalling and terrible".
"The fact is this was prolonged, sadistic violence for no reason other than that you got a real kick out of hurting and humiliating them."
He added: "The bottom line for the two of you is that I'm sure you both pose a very high risk of serious harm to others."
The brothers were known to authorities, and social services was aware of their troubled up-bringing.
A Safeguarding Children Board report, seen by the BBC's Newsnight programme, found the attack could have been prevented.
