Woman, 90, Robbed In Sydenham
Detectives have reissued an appeal for information after a 90-year-old woman was robbed in Sydenham on last month.
At about 4.20pm on Friday 15 January the victim was approached in Lawrie Park Gardens, SE26, by a man who grabbed her handbag and knocked her to the ground then ran off with her bag.
Police are looking for a light skinned black man who was seen in the area to help them with their enquiries.
He is described as being between 20-35 years-old, nearly six foot tall, of an athletic build and wearing a dark woolen hat, a hooded dark parka-style jacket and three-quarter length dark trousers.
The 90-year-old woman, who is local to the area, had been walking home with her shopping bags after she got off the 227 bus on Crystal Palace Park Road, before she was attacked.
At about 4.30pm a resident found the woman and called the police.
Officers from Lewisham Police and paramedics arrived shortly after and she was taken to a south London hospital with life changing injuries, where she still remains.
Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Steve Baxter, said: "This is an extremely unusual and upsetting incident. It has had a devastating effect on the victim, who is a vulnerable, elderly woman and she will never fully recover.
"We are keen to trace a man seen in the area. If anyone in the saw or heard anything around LawrieParkGardens on that afternoon please contact Lewisham CID."
The victim had a distinctive black handbag, with handles rather than straps and three zip pockets. About £120 in cash, a new passport and house keys were stolen along with the bag.
