Brown Denies Darling Tirade
Opposition leader David Cameron has taunted the Prime Minister over claims he had come to blows with his Chancellor.
It was alleged Mr Brown order advisers to brief against Alastair Darling in the wake of his 2008 prediction that the UK was headed for an historic recession.
Mr Darling said "the forces of hell" were unleashed against him by Downing Street aides.
During today's Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Cameron claimed former top adviser Damian McBride had in fact been "spreading poison" about the Chancellor to journalists.
Earlier Mr Brown told GMTV: "I would never instruct anybody to do anything other than support my Chancellor."
He added: "Alistair has been a friend of mine for 20 years, we have worked together, our families know each other. We have worked together all this time and we have huge mutual respect for each other."
Mr McBride, who resigned over an alleged email smear campaign last year, denied any attack on Mr Darling.
Responding to Mr Cameron's criticism in the Commons, the Prime Minister said his Chancellor had been "right on every issue".
He continued: "I would rather be defending my Chancellor than be in your position of having to defend your shadow chancellor."
Commenting on Messrs Brown and Darling's closeness on the front bench this afternoon, the Tory leader joked: "Any closer and they will start kissing!"

Prime Minister Urges Banks To Pass Rate Cut On
Gordon Brown has urged banks to pass on the latest interest rate cuts, so customers can feel the full benefits of the 1% reduction. The cost of borrowing was cut by one percentage point, yesterday, pushing the base rate of interest to 2% - the lowest level since September 1939.

UK Budget Date Set
Chancellor Alistair Darling will deliver what could be his last Budget in Government on 24 March, it was confirmed today. The statement will come a mere six weeks ahead of the much speculated 6 May General Election. Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown said he and his Cabinet were continuing to guide the UK through a historic economic "storm".

Home Secretary confesses to smoking cannabis
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has admitted to reporters that she smoked cannabis while at university. Ms Smith, 44, told the BBC that she smoked cannabis when she was attending Oxford University in the 1980s. She said that she smoked it "a few times" and conceded that she had broken the law.

Electioneering Heats Up
More than a dozen additional business leaders have given their backing to Tory plans which would see employers' National Insurance contributions cut. However, Labour has claimed there are flaws in the tax proposals. Conservative leader David Cameron said his government would block the 1% rise in NI next April for those earning over £20,000.
