Baby Killed By Falling Lamp Post
A baby boy seriously injured by a falling lamp post in Chiswick has died.
He was pronounced dead at hospital at around 5.30am.
Police said a post-mortem examination will be scheduled "in due course".
A joint investigation is underway by officers from Hounslow CID and the Specialist Crime Directorate, and the Health and Safety Executive.
Police were called at after 10.30am on Tuesday to reports of a woman and a baby injured by a falling lamppost in Sutton Court Road W4, at the junction with Heathfield Terrace.
A woman in her early 60s was taken by the London Ambulance Service to New Charing Cross Hospital. She was discharged on yesterday.
The baby boy - believed to be aged approximately one year - was taken to hospital by air ambulance. No-one else was injured.
"Contrary to earlier reports, the baby and the woman injured are not related and the woman was not pushing the pram which held the child at the time of the incident," a Scotland Yard spokesman said.
"It is understood the baby was with a woman carer who was not injured," he added.
