Suspicious Glasgow Car Fires
Detectives in Glasgow's East End are investigating a spate of vehicle fire attacks in the city yesterday.
Shortly after 3.30am police were called to a report of a vehicle fire in Ashvale Crescent, Glasgow.
Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that four vehicles had been damaged by fire.
The vehicles damaged were a Suzuki Jeep, Honda CRV, Volkswagon Polo and a Vauxhall Corsa.
Less than half an hour later police were called to a second report of a vehicle fire in Crichton Street, Glasgow.
Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that a Vauxhall Zafira had been damaged by fire.
Almost 20 minutes after this police were called to a third report of a Talbot Motor Caravan on fire in Morrin Path, Glasgow.
Strathclyde Fire Service confirmed a further two vehicles had been damaged by fire, a Vauxhall Vectra and a Peugeot 206.
Police said they are treating the cause of the fires as suspicious.
Detective Sergeant Tom McKean, of Baird Street CID, has appealed for any information that would locate the culprits.
"I would appeal to anyone who was in any of the areas at the time of the incidents or anyone who may have seen any persons or vehicles near to the scene around the time of the fires being reported, or anyone who may have witnessed any persons acting suspiciously, or have any information that may assist police enquiries to contact London Road CID," he said.

More than 700 acres of mountain in Wattsville, near Crosskeys, were affected by a fire, which the fire service believe was started deliberately. Firefighters Tackle Overnight Church Blaze
Firefighters in Glasgow have fought a blaze at a church in the city over night. Emergency services where alerted to the fire on Crossloan Road, Govan at about 22:30 on Sunday. Residents in a neighbouring four-storey tenement had to be evacuated during the incident, with a number of them put up in emergency accommodation.

Fire brigade with more than 1 million fires in a year: Prescott
Latest national fire statistics covering the 12 months to September 2002 were issued today by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. First estimates show that the UK fire and rescue service attended just over 1 million fires and false fire alarms during the 12 months to September 2002 - 2% more than the previous 12-month period.

Families evacuated over south Wales grass fires
Firefighters in Wales are currently dealing one of its biggest-ever fires, which has seen up to 40 homes evacuated in Wattsville, near Newport. Over 100 firemen are at the scene of the grass fires which began late last night and fears are mounting that the flames could spread into residential areas.
