Optimism For Captured Boy's Return
There is renewed optimism a British boy kidnapped by robbers in Pakistan will be returned safely to his family.
Sahil Saeed, 5, was captured by raiders who had held his family at gunpoint in the Punjab region of Jhelum.
Local police have said they are closing in on the suspected gang.
The Manchester boy's kidnappers have demanded a ransom of £100,000 for his release - money Sahil's family say they do not have.
A Foreign Office spokesman last night confirmed one man had been arrested in connection with the kidnapping.
Media reports suggest several other suspects have also been apprehended by Pakistani police.
Investigator Raja Tahir Bashir would not confirm this.
He said: "God willing, we will recover the boy very soon. We are doing whatever is possible."
Sahil's distraught father Raja Saeed said the family had been visiting an ill relative when the attack happened.
Men armed with guns and grenades stormed the residential property demanding cash and valuables.
Around 10 family members were beaten by the gang, who later made off with young Sahil.
"I don't have any money at all," he said. "They can take me if they want - just let my son come back. I am nothing without him," Mr Sadeed, from Oldham, told the BBC.
Akila Naqqash, the boy's mother, said there was no way they could afford to pay the ransom.
"Sahil is a really quiet child - he's no harm to nobody," she said.
Immigration Minister and Oldham MP Phil Woolas said the Foreign Office was giving all available support to the Pakistani police operation.
