Life For Strangling Estranged Wife
A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after pleading guilty to murder.
At Leicester Crown Court on Friday, Anthony Patrick Campbell, of Adcock Road, New Parks pleaded guilty to murdering his wife, Rhonda Campbell, 38.
He was sentenced to serve a minimum of 15 years.
The killing happened between Sunday 22 November and Monday 23 November, 2009 at Rhonda’s home in Ash Grove, Melton.
Police were called to the property following concerns raised by a member of the public regarding Rhonda’s welfare. Officers attended the address and once inside discovered Rhonda’s body.
A post mortem examination was carried out and the pathologist revealed Rhonda had died from being strangled and a murder investigation was launched.
Anthony and Rhonda had separated in previous months. Rhonda had three daughters from previous relationships.
Detective Superintendent Craig Moore, who led the investigation, said Campbell’s guilty plea reflected the weight of evidence against him.
"When he fled the scene of the murder of his wife Rhonda, detectives from Leicestershire Constabulary quickly located Campbell in Skegness with the assistance of colleagues from Lincolnshire," said DS Moore.
"His actions have devastated a very close knit family who are still struggling to come to terms with their tragic loss.
"I would like to pay a personal tribute to them and everyone involved in the investigation for their hard work and professionalism."

Two More Charged In Denton Murder Investigation

Dominic Doyle, 21, died in hospital after he was seriously injured in a large fight on Manchester Road at about 3am on Sunday. Renewed Appeal Offers Reward In 1975 Murder Investigation
Police have renewed an appeal for information on the murders of Eve Stratford and Lynne Weedon in 1975. A reward of £40,000 is now being offered for information leading to a conviction in the murders, which were linked by police in 2006. Eve Stratford was found murders at her flat in Lyndhurst Drive, Leyton on 18 March, 1975.

Arrest Made In Preacher Murder Investigation
The Metropolitan Police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of Syrian-born preacher in north-west London. 48-year-old Abdul Hadi Arwani was found shot dead in a car on Tuesday in Wembley. It is understood that counter-terrorism police have been leading the investigation into his murder.
