Internet Prowler Jailed For Child Abuse
A man who 'groomed' a girl via social networking websites has been jailed for sexual activity with children.
Paul Collins, 40, of Croydon in South London, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to one count of meeting a child following sexual grooming, two counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child and 12 counts of making indecent photographs of children.
These included possessing 1,172 images at level one, 71 at level two, 78 at level three and 139 at level four and two at level five.
He was sentenced last week to 34 months in prison.
Collins was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and is subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for life.
Police were made aware of Collins' activities after the father of a 15-year-old girl, from Eccles, informed them a man had been to his home while he was out.
The girl explained she had been chatting to a 32-year-old man on an online social networking site before meeting and engaging in sexual activity with him.
After an investigation, the man was identified as Paul Collins and he was arrested on Wednesday 13 May 2009.
Detective Constable Steve Roxburgh, said: "As an older man, Collins has taken advantage of a much younger girl.
"He used this to manipulate his victim, engaging in sexual acts he knew full well was illegal.
"These sorts of predators need to be brought to justice and I would encourage anyone who is going through something similar to please speak up."
