Football Thug Jailed
A 20-year-old man has been jailed in connection with disorder at a football match last August.
Richard Coffman, of Mawney Road, Romford, was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison and banned from football matches for six years.
Coffman's conviction relates to an incident at the West Ham United versus Tottenham Hotspur fixture in August 2009.
He was sentenced to eight weeks for affray and a further ten weeks for breaching a suspended sentence, totalling 18 weeks.
His conviction follows an investigation into a large scale fight involving around 100 people in Mile End Road, on 23 August.
The disorder involved West Ham and Tottenham fans, who had been drinking in separate pubs after the game.
To date, a total of 67 people have been arrested in connection with the investigation, led by officers based at Stratford Police Station.
Of those, 57 people are currently on bail awaiting trial or court appearances after being charged with offences including violent disorder under Section 2 of the Public Order Act; using threatening words or behaviour under Section 4 of the Public Order Act and affray under Section 3 of the Public Order Act.
Eight people have been released no further action and two people have received juvenile reprimands.

Coalition forces make 'remarkable progress' says Hoon
Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon has told MPs that the Coalition "continues to make remarkable progress", amid reports that the US spearhead has fought itself to within six miles of Baghdad. In a statement to the House of Commons today, Mr Hoon said British forces are currently "consolidating their position" in the area in and around Basrah.

Firms fined over Hatfield rail crash
Two firms have been fined a combined total of £13.5 million over the Hatfield rail disaster, in which four people died. The rail firm, Network Rail – formerly Railtrack – was fined £3.5 million, while engineering firm Balfour Beatty was fined £10 million. Both companies were also ordered to pay £300,000 in costs.

Over 2,000 People Use 'Help To Buy' Scheme
More than 2,000 people have put in offers on homes under the Help to Buy scheme, totalling £365 million of new mortgage lending. The applications are backed by a 'decision in principle' by RBS and Lloyds, the first two participating banks, for 95 per cent mortgages. Ten of the 2,384 applications have already completed.

Arrests Made During Violent Student Protest
As thousands gather in central London to demonstrate against student fee increases, it has been reported that protesters have smashed up a police van while clashing with police. Wooden poles have also been thrown at officers as protesters try to break through police lines into Pall Mall.
