MP Died Of Natural Causes
Tributes have been paid to Ashok Kumar, the Labour MP (pictured) who died suddenly yesterday.
Police confirmed today that the Parliamentarian had died of natural cause.
Dr Kumar, 53, had served his Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland constituency since 1997.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown described the MP as "a tenacious campaigner" and "a warm and incredibly generous man".
Dr Kumar's office released a statement expressing "huge shock" at his passing.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "A post-mortem was carried out this morning and revealed that the 53-year-old died from natural causes."
Chief Constable Sean Price added: "Ashok Kumar was a talented MP who was dedicated to serving his constituents and was always greatly supportive of Cleveland Police.
"I was extremely saddened to hear the news of his death and my thoughts are with his family and friends."
Staff raised the alarm yesterday, when they were unable to get in contact with Dr Kumar.
Police attended his home and found the MP dead.
Commons Speaker John Bercow announced Dr Kumar's passing in the chamber just hours laters.
Dr Kumar, who was born in India, first entered politics during a 1991 Langbaurgh by-election.
However, he failed to retain the seat at the following year's General Election.
Dr Kumar gained a 10,000-plus majority in the Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland polls in 1997, the year Labour swept to victory and entered Government.

Charges follow investigation into NHS fraud allegations
Nine people and five companies have been charged following a Serious Fraud Office investigation into conspiracy to defraud the NHS. The criminal charges relate to alleged price fixing and market sharing by suppliers of generic drugs, especially warfarin and penicillin-based antibiotics such as amoxicillin and ampicillin.

A family doctor has been sentenced to 12 years in jail after pleading guilty to 39 sex offences. 45-year-old Davinder Jeet Bains, who worked as a GP at a medical practice in Royal Wootton Bassett, used a secret camera in his wristwatch to film himself abusing 27 women, aged from 14 to 51, between July 2010 and May 2012.

The BBC has this week released the first image of an animated cartoon Doctor Who. This is as he will appear in the new animation, Dreamland, which is due for broadcast later this year. The six-part series will be premièred via the BBC 'Red Button' on BBC One and the Doctor Who website (bbc.co.uk/doctorwho).
