Officer Down
Serious injuries were suffered by a female police officer yesterday when she was hit by a van that was believed to have been used in a burglary in Buckinghamshire. The Ford Escort van struck the police woman in Aylesbury on Tuesday as she tried to stop it with a tyre deflation device. She is being treated in hospital for injuries including a broken arm. Police said her condition is not believed to be life-threatening. It has since emerged that two men have been arrested over the collision and burglary.
Court Date For Fraud Mum
A mother accused of taking nearly £11,000 from the compensation payment to her soldier son who lost a leg in Afghanistan has appeared in court.Angela Woollard, 43, from Southend, Essex, was arrested in September and later charged with fraud. Private Matt Woollard, of the Royal Anglians, received £200,000 after stepping on a landmine in May 2007.Mrs Woollard was bailed by Southend magistrates to return to court for a committal hearing on 6 June.She was charged with fraud by abuse of position between 22 July 2007 and 10 February 2008.
Driver Critical After Crash
A motorist is critical after the car he was driving crashed in Dinas Powys in the Vale of Glamorgan. South Wales Police said the incident happened at 2am as the car travelled along Cardiff Road in the village. Only one vehicle, a silver Volkswagen Golf, was involved in the incident, say officers who are investigating. The driver is being treated at hospital in Cardiff. Police are appealing for witnesses.
Cameron Struck By Egg
David Cameron has been struck by an egg while campaigning in Cornwall. It is said the egg was thrown by the student as the Conservative leader left a college he had been visiting. Although the egg did strike Mr Cameron's shoulder, it was his protection officer who took the full force of the mess. Cameron said the egg was the "first of the campaign".
Charges Over Aamir Death
Two men have been charged with the murder of Aamir Siddiqi and the attempted murder of Aamir's father Iqbal, 68 and his mother, Parveen, 55. Ben Hope, 36, and Jason Richards, 35 were accused of murdering 17-year-old Aamir at his home.The teenager died from multiple stab wounds after answering the door to the family home on Sunday, April 11. The two men, both from Cardiff, were remanded in custody until 30 April.

Egg producers crack after FA rejection
British egg producers have been told where to get 'oeuf' by the Football Association (FA), after it refused permission for England football's famous three Lions to be printed on the nation's eggs. Britain's eggs currently carry a single Lion print on the shell to indicate that the product has been protected from salmonella.

The release of a man convicted of killing three unarmed police officers in 1966 has been described as "sickening". Harry Roberts, now aged 78, has been released from prison after serving 48 years for 1966 murders of three unarmed police officers in Shepherd's Bush in west London.

Major Police Hunt Launched After Boy Taken From Hospital
A major police hunt has begun after a five-year-old boy with a brain tumour, was taken by his family without consent from Southampton General Hospital. Police said that Ashya King was taken from the hospital by Brett King, 51, and Naghemeh King, 45, on Thursday. It is thought he may have been taken to France.

Kent Police, in partnership with officers from the Metropolitan Police Service, have arrested two men in East London on suspicion of conspiracy to commit armed robbery. On 3 May, Kent Police began a search for Michael Wheatley, 55, who had failed to return to HMP Standford Hill after being released on temporary licence.

Riot Police Deployed As G8 Protesters Occupy Former Police Station
Some 100 riot police have been deployed in central London as protestors take to the streets to demonstrate ahead on the G8 summit being held in Northern Ireland next week. Officers were sent to Soho, where protesters are thought to have occupied a former police station on Beak Street.
