Wigan Midfielder's Driving Test Arrest

A premier -league footballer has been arrested following allegations that someone else completed the written part of his driving test.

The Wigan midfielder,Charles N'Zogbia, was arrested on Wednesday as he arrived for his practical driving test.

Police and officials from the Driving Standards Agency(DSA) were waiting for him when he arrived for the practical at 8.20am

The 23-year-old, who could earn a place in England's World Cup squad, had allegedly arranged for someone to take the theory section for him several weeks ago.

He was held on suspicion of causing fraud by false representation and was released on bail from Altrincham police station in Cheshire on Wednesday.

He faces a maximum of 10 years in jail if he is charged and convicted. The man who allegedly pretended to be him has not yet been arrested.

The Frenchman, whose parents are Congolese, made 118 appearances for Newcastle before joining Wigan last year. Mr N'Zogbia scored the winning goal when his team beat Arsenal 3-2 on Sunday.

The DSA estimates that around 500 people a year attempt to fraudulently obtain driving licences by hiring others to impersonate them.
