Tube Station Shuts Following Accidental Blast
A busy London tube station was forced to close last night, following an electrical explosion nearby.
Bond Street Station was closed for around 50 minutes at approximately 8pm on Thursday after a blast at a Foot Locker store on Oxford Street.
Police have confirmed an electrical fault caused the explosion at the store, adding that they are not treating the incident as suspicious.
A statement from Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called to reports of an electrical fault having caused an explosion at the Foot Locker retail store, opposite Bond Street tube station in Oxford Street.
"It is believed that there are no persons injured. This is not being treated as a terrorist incident."
A spokeswoman for London Fire Brigade said sent 25 firefighters were sent to the scene in response to reports of an explosion, which occurred at an electrical substation under the pavement outside the station.
The area has now been declared safe and trains are stopping at Bond Street station.
London Fire Brigade and EDF Energy, however, continue to investigate the incident.
