Stabbed Teen Dies

A teenage boy has died after being stabbed in the chest in Greater Manchester. Police found the 17-year-old collapsed in Tonge Moor Road, Bolton, at 11.30pm with fatal injuries. It is believed he had been attacked in a nearby house. He was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital where he later died. Three teenagers and a woman have been arrested in connection with the death. One of them, a 17-year-old boy, is being quizzed on suspicion of murder.

PSNI Station Blasted

Two people have been injured in a car bomb explosion outside a police station in Newtownhamilton, Co Armagh. The explosion happened at about 11.25pm. Police were told in a call to a Belfast hospital about an hour earlier that a vehicle had been abandoned and officers were en route to the station, which is staffed on a part-time basis, when the explosion happened. The two people's injuries are not life-threatening. Shots are reported to have been fired before the explosion.

Roman Altar Stones Uncovered

The remains of two Roman altar stones have been uncovered in an East Lothian park during the redevelopment of a Musselburgh cricket pavilion. As the Lewisvale Park pavilion lies partially within a Scheduled Ancient Monument (Roman and Iron Age Field Systems) permission to undertake excavations for the building foundations and to lay services was required from Historic Scotland.

Oil Platform 999

An oil worker has been airlifted to hospital after suffering an electric shock on an offshore platform. The man was injured on the Dunlin platform, north east of Shetland at about 5pm and as a result of the incident, power to the rig was cut off for a short time prompting crews on board to prepare for evacuation.

Drivers Quizzed Over Murder

Police investigating the murder of a woman found strangled in a ditch are to set up a road block in a Gwynedd town. It is nearly two weeks since the body of 22-year-old Ffion Wyn Roberts was discovered in Porthmadog. The care worker was last seen after a Friday night out celebrating a friend's birthday in nearby Tremadog. Officers hope to speak to drivers who may have been in the area at the time of the killing but who do not realise they might have witness information.

Body Found Following Explosion in Co Durham
A body of a man has been recovered from a house in Darlington, Co Durham, following an explosion. It is understood that fire crews were called after a suspected explosion caused a fire at a property on Lewes Road at about 02:50 on Friday morning. The body was found by firefighters after they entered the building.

Two Injured In Explosion Arrested
Police in Birmingham have arrested two men on suspicion of causing an explosion likely to endanger life. It is understood two men are being treated in hospital following the explosion on Aldersmead Road in West Heath at about 20:00 on Sunday.

Iraq bombs leave more than 150 dead
More than 150 people have been killed in a series of bomb blasts in Iraq. In the deadliest attack, at least 115 people were killed when a car bomb exploded in a market in Sadriyah. An hour before that blast, at least 30 people were killed in what is believed to have been an attack by a suicide bomber in a car at a police checkpoint in Sadr City.

Suspected bomber remanded in custody
Suspect bomber Hussain Osman has been remanded in custody following a court appearance on Friday morning. Amid tight security Mr Osman, 27, appeared before Bow Street Magistrates court sitting at Belmarsh prison. He was charged with seven offences including the attempted murder of passengers on a Tube train at Shepherd's Bush on July 21.

Release Of Police Killer Described As 'Sickening'
The release of a man convicted of killing three unarmed police officers in 1966 has been described as "sickening". Harry Roberts, now aged 78, has been released from prison after serving 48 years for 1966 murders of three unarmed police officers in Shepherd's Bush in west London.
