Two Arrested In Assisted Suicide Case
Two people have been arrested in South Tyneside on suspicion of assisting the suicide of a disabled man who travelled to Switzerland to die.
Retired engineer Douglas Sinclair, 76, had been suffering from the degenerative neurological disorder multiple system atrophy and was living in a care home in Jarrow.
The father-of-one travelled to the Dignitas Clinic in Zurich, where he died on July 28.
A statement issued by Northumbria police said: "A 47-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man from South Shields have been arrested on suspicion of intentionally doing an act to assist or encourage suicide following the death of a 76-year-old man in Switzerland.
"Both have been bailed pending further inquiries."

Man arrested over Iraq suicide bombings

New Assisted Suicide Policy Revealed
Assisted suicide law in the UK was today clarified by the head of Public Prosecutions. Keir Starmer said the public can have "full confidence" in the policy the Crown Prosecution Service will follow in deciding whether or not to prosecute cases of assisted suicide.

A British woman has committed assisted suicide in Switzerland. Retired doctor Anne Turner, 67, who suffered from the progressive and incurable disease supranuclear palsy, died after drinking a lethal dose of barbiturates provided by the Dignitas clinic in Zurich, around 12:35 GMT.

A female suicide bomber is believed to be responsible for the airport bombing in Russia which killed at least 35 people including one Briton. The blast, which took place at Domodedovo airport, left over 100 people injured. Russian authorities have said two Britons were among those killed however the Foreign Office can only confirm one.
