UK Inflation Remains Unchanged

The UK's Consumer Prices Index (CPI) remained unchanged in August at 3.1%, the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics has revealed.

This means that the figures remains above the Bank of England's 2% target.

The high rate was attributed to rises in the cost of air fare, clothing and food.

Air fares rose by 16.1% this year, with the largest increases on long haul and European flights.

Clothing and footwear prices also rose by 2.8% this year, with the largest increases seen in women's outerwear, while food prices also rose, particularly bread, cereals and vegetables.

However, fuel prices fell by 1% between July and August this year, while prices of second-hand cars dropped between July and August, compared to sharp price rises during the same period last year.

Meanwhile, Retail Price Index inflation dropped slightly last month to 4.7% from 4.8% in July.
