Thirty Year Term For Holloway Murder
A man has been found guilty of murder at Kingston Crown Court.
Michael James, 31, from North London has been jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 30 years after being convicted of the murder of Ahmet Paytak, 50, and the attempted murder of his son, Husyein Paytak (then aged 21) in Holloway in March 2009.
Mr James drove the stolen motorcycle to and away from the murder scene while his pillion passenger carried out the shooting. The pair are believed to have been recruited in response to a shooting in Clapton earlier on the same day.
Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Joe Daly of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: "Throughout the investigation James continually denied any involvement. It was only when he was presented with overwhelming evidence that he eventually admitted being the rider of the motor cycle.
"James then invented a theft scenario stating that he believed he was going to steal a quantity of drugs from a shop and had no idea his pillion passenger was armed with a gun.
"James will now face a considerable amount of time behind bars.”
Inspector Daly added: "Mr Paytak's death was a tragic and senseless loss of life, which has devastated a family. The police investigation into this incident continues. We are committed to continuing our efforts to bring other suspects involved in this horrific crime to justice.
"Mr Paytak and his son were entirely innocent victims caught up in a violent feud involving rival parties.
"Today, Michael James has been jailed for life for Mr Paytak's murder and the attempted murder of his son, Husyein.”
A second man aged in his 20s was arrested on 1 October 2009 in connection with the incident. He remains on police bail while enquiries continue.
A reward of £20,000 leading to the identification, arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the death remains on offer.

Shot Belfast Man Recovering
A 35-year-old man has been shot twice in the leg inside a house in Twinbrook in Co Antrim on the outskirts of Belfast. A young girl and a woman were in the house in the Summerhill Drive area when the attack happened on Wednesday night. However, it is not believed that the man's injuries are life threatening.

Man Charged With Attempted Murder
A man has been charged with attempted murder following an incident in Faversham at the weekend. Kent Police confirmed Lincoln Payne, of no fixed abode, had been charged with robbery, theft and two counts of attempted murder following an incident in Fostall Avenue on Saturday, 30 May.

Surrey Murder Suspect Arrested
Police have arrested 38-year-old Viktoras Bruzas on suspicion of murdering a couple in Surrey. The bodies of Patrick and Gillian Kettyle were found at their home in Fetcham in the early hours of Thursday morning. Police had issued an appeal for help in tracing Mr Bruzas in connection with the murders, and had urged the public not to approach him.

Police were speaking on Monday about the discovery on October 10 of the remains of two bodies in the garden of a house in Blenheim Close, Forest Town, Nottinghamshire.
