Snow And Ice Sweeps The UK
Large parts of the UK have been affected by snow and ice as the current cold weather snap continues.
The Met Office has issued warnings of heavy snow for northern Scotland, Wales and east England, while there are warnings of widespread icy conditions across Northern Ireland, west Wales and south-west England.
Thursday saw the earliest widespread snowfall in the country for 17 years, which caused disruption across the UK, with as much as six inches of snow falling in the Scottish Highlands and northern England.
There has been widespread disruption to schools and traffic chaos across the country.
There are fears that the freezing temperatures could continue for two weeks, with more snow forecast.

Gritters readied as northern England prepares for snow
With snow forecast to affect western, central and northern England over the next few days, the Highways Agency's gritting fleet is being mobilised to treat ice and snow on motorways and other strategic roads. The Agency receives regular weather forecasts and mobilises its fleet gritting operation whenever ice or snow is predicted, it said.

The wintry weather will continue over the next few days as Atlantic weather systems stall as they move across the UK, bringing the mix of rain, sleet and snow. The current cold spell gripping the UK is set to continue, the Met Office has warned, with more snow showers expected across England and Wales today. South East England could see accumulations of snow of between 3 to 7cm, due to persistent snow showers, the Met Office warned.
