Appeal As Hackney Police Car Rammed
An investigation is underway to trace the driver of a stolen Ford Transit van which deliberately struck a police vehicle, injuring two officers in Hackney.
The officers, a male PC and a female PC based at Tower Hamlets, were pursuing the van last Thursday 25 November after responding to a call that the vehicle was stolen and being driven in Homerton Road.
The officers, who were travelling in an unmarked vehicle, with flashing lights and siren in use, followed the van towards Hackney Marshes, where the van came to a halt, unable to pass through a narrow road.
The van then reversed at high speed striking the front of the police car, causing severe frontal damage, before making off at speed.
The female PC was cut free from the vehicle by the London Fire Brigade. She was taken to hospital suffering from head and neck injuries.
Her colleague, who was driving, was also taken to hospital with neck and back injuries.
Both officers were later discharged.
The van features an image of a green oak tree on each side panel along and the lettering, 'Oaks Civil Engineering' in green.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Rhodri Gardner from Hackney Police said: "Anyone who has seen a van matching this description or knows of its whereabouts is urged to contact police immediately.”
Enquiries are continuing.
