Tony Blair to Give Evidence This Month
Tony Blair is to give evidence in the Iraq Inquiry this month. This will be the second time the former Prime Minister will be evidence before the Chilcot committee. The date has been announced as 21 January. Tony Blair is one of a number of key figures, including former Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, asked to appear again. The inquiry said it wanted "more detail" in some key areas.
Bus Bomb 'Preventable', Says Victim's Mother
The mother of a man blown up on a London bus on 7 July 2005 has described the terrorist attack as "preventable". Speaking at the inquest, Marie Fatayi-Williams said her son Anthony's death was "totally unnecessary", suggesting authorities could have foreseen it. She also criticised police delays in informing her of his death. Anthony, from Hendon, north London, was one of 13 killed when Hasib Hussain blew himself up in Tavistock Square.
Cook Appointed To Utilities Authority
Stuart Cook has been appointed to the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (GEMA) for five years, the Department of Energy and Climate Change today confirmed. Sarah Harrison has also been re-appointed for a term of five years. Stuart Cook is Senior Partner, Smarter Grids and Governance at Ofgem. He joined Ofgem in 2008 and has over 18 years of utilities industry experience. Sarah Harrison has been Ofgem’s Senior Partner Sustainable Development since September 2009. She joined Ofgem in September 1999 and her previous roles were as Ofgem’s Communications Director and Managing Director of Corporate Affairs.

Prime Minister Tony Blair has unveiled plans to reform Britain’s state schools, describing it as a “pivotal moment” for his government. Speaking ahead of the publication of an Education White Paper tomorrow, Mr Blair said that he wanted to offer “more power and choice for parents”, by freeing schools from the control of local authorities.

Interviews with Iraqi scientists will be needed to discover evidence of banned weapons in Iraq, Prime Minister Tony Blair has said today. In a television interview Mr Blair said that when weapons inspectors first entered Iraq in 1991, Saddam Hussein's full biological weapons programme remained undiscovered for four or five years.
