CCTV Of Downham Murder Victim Released
Just over a week on from the murder of an 86-year old woman in Downham, police have released CCTV images of her four days before she was murdered.
Pat (Jean) Jobson, 86, had lived in Downham for a number of years and was well loved by her local community. Police have released CCTV of her shopping in Sainsbury's wearing clothes similar to what she was wearing when she died.
Officers have established that Pat was living alone after her husband died eleven years ago. The couple did not have any children. She is believed to have worked as a conductress on the buses, a secretary for London County Council and was part of the Territorial Army at some point in her life.
At approximately 8.15pm on Sunday 20 February, police attended Pat's home address in Oakridge Road, Downham, Bromley after a relative and some local people had called police expressing concerns about her welfare.
Pat was found suffering from head injuries and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The post-mortem gave the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.
Pat was last seen at around 5.00pm on Friday 18 February and police believe the assault took place some time between then and 8.00pm on Sunday 20 February.
There are indications that Pat tried to defend herself from her attacker by fighting back despite her age.
Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons, leading the investigation, said: "The public have reacted strongly to the death of Pat and I would like to thank those that have already helped in this investigation. This was a violent and dangerous attack on a vulnerable elderly woman. We believe that Pat fought her attacker and I cannot appeal strongly enough to the local community to come forward with information.
"I believe that someone knows who committed this crime and we urge anyone with information to come forward."
There has been no arrest at present.
