Life Sentence For 25-Year-Old Man
A 25-year-old man has been jailed for life for the murder of 18-year-old student Mahir Osman.
Ahmed Farah, of no fixed abode, was found guilty of the murder of Mahir Osman on 28 January 2006.
He was sentenced to life to serve a minimum of 16 years imprisonment.
Detective Chief Insepctor Steven Lawrence of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: “This is the 15th conviction in connection with the murder of Mahir in 2006. I hope it sends out a clear message to all those intent on violence that they will be held to account; no matter how long it takes to identify and capture those responsible."
"Farah was part of a group of men who went to Camden with the sole intention of attacking anyone belonging to an opposing rival group. It was a premeditated attack using a level of violence I have rarely seen.
"This has been a long and hard investigation to which my officers have shown great determination and professionalism in ensuring those responsible have been put before the courts. I would also like to praise the work of the CCTV operators of Camden Council and the first police officers on the scene who did an excellent job of identifying the group and following them both pre and post attack."
On Saturday, 28 January 2006 police were called to a disturbance involving a large group of male youths in Camden Road, close to the junction with Chalk Farm Rd, north west London.
Mahir Osman, an unmarried mechanical engineering student, of Taplow, had been stabbed and died on Sunday, 29 January 2006 in the Royal Free Hospital.
The court heard that the youths, including Farah, from a group of north London Somalis, stabbed Mr. Osman more than 20 times. Nineteen stab wounds punctured the back of his body, which ultimately proved fatal.
As they attacked him, they shouted "Stab him through the heart, stab him dead through the heart."
The group was seen earlier that evening arming themselves with bottles, knives, hammers and pieces of wood before attacking the victim in Chalk Farm Road.
It is believed the motive for the attack was that the group was involved in a dispute with a rival Somalian group based in Camden, Mr. Osman appears to have been singled out because of his association with the group.
Enquiries established that the murder had been captured on CCTV and that up to 40 people were involved in the incident.

Samantha Kidd, the estranged wife of former stuntman Eddie Kidd, has admitted four counts of assault against the now paralysed 54-year-old. Brighton Magistrates Court heard that Samantha, 44, had tried to throttle Mr Kidd, as well punching him in the face and chest and kicking him, leaving him shaking and "hysterical", according to the BBC.

A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for attacking a judge who had just jailed his brother It is understood that Paul Graham ran from the public gallery of a Suffolk court and attacked a judge. The attack took place yesterday and followed Judge John Devaux jailing Mr Graham’s brother for causing death by dangerous driving.
