Teenager Remanded Over Ealing Riot Murder
A 16-year-old boy charged with the murder of a man who was attacked during riots in Ealing earlier this month has been remanded in custody.
Richard Mannington Bowes, 68, was attacked as he attempted to put out a fire in Ealing, west London, during riots there on August 8.
Mr Bowes, of Haven Green, Ealing, died three days later. A post-mortem revealed that he died from head injuries.
The teenager, who is from Hounslow and who cannot be named, appeared before Croydon Youth Court today to face the murder charge, as well as charges of violent disorder and four counts of burglary.
He was remanded in custody to appear before the Old Bailey on August 18.
His mother, who is 31, also appeared before Croydon magistrates charged with perverting the course of justice. She was also remanded in custody to appear before the Old Bailey on August 18.
A 22-year-old man who was also arrested on suspicion of Mr Bowes' murder, has been released on bail.
