British Man Dies In Seychelles Shark Attack
A British man has been killed after being attacked by a shark during his honeymoon in the Seychelles.
Ian Redmond, 30, from Lancashire, had been snorkelling off Anse Lazio beach in Praslin around 5pm local time on Tuesday, when the attack happened.
He lost an arm and suffered severe injuries to his legs, hip and chest in the attack. Two men in a catamaran had rescued Mr Redmond after the attack, but he was so badly injured he was unable to survive.
Mr Redmond had been on honeymoon with his wife, Gemma Houghton, 27, who he married less than two weeks ago.
The couple had been staying at the La Reserve hotel and were due to fly home on Sunday.
This is the second shark attack to have happened in this area in the last month, which has sparked fears that the same shark is behind both attacks. A 36-year-old French tourist was killed on August 2 in the same area.
Prior to that, the last recorded fatal shark attack in the Seychelles was in 1963.
Authorities have now stopped diving in the area until they can catch the shark.
The Foreign Office has confirmed the death of Mr Redmond and said that they are providing consular assistance.
