NI Women Murdered In Turkey

Two women from Northern Ireland have been murdered in Turkey. It is understood that the women, who have been named as Marion Elizabeth Graham and Kathy Dinsmore, are both aged in their 50s and from Co. Down, were stabbed to death in a forest just outside the city of Izmir. A 17-year-old Turkish youth, believed to be the boyfriend of a daughter of one of the women, has been arrested. The 15-year-old daughter is thought to have been on a boat trip when the killings happened. Both women are believed to have been travelling using Irish passports and the Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to their families.

Missing Woman's Brother Found Dead

The body of a man found near New Moor Farm, Walworth Gate, has been formally identified as the brother of missing Polish farmhand Danuta Domagalska. Piotr Lawniczak, 31, was found hanging in a wooded area close to the dairy farm on the outskirts of Darlington on Wednesday. His wide and other family members in Poland have been informed and an inquest will be held in due course. Danuta, 27, was last seen on August 6. She lived with her brother and husband, Marcin, at a cottage next to the farm. Her five-year-old son is being looked after by relatives in Poland. She has worked at New Moor Farm for the last three years and both Marcin and Piotr had been previously employed at the farm. Commenting on the case, Detective Superintendent Adrian Green said: "I have to be realistic and accept the chances of her still being alive are very slim. We are continuing to talk to her husband as we piece together her movements in the days leading up to her disappearance." Two More Charged With Derby Murder

Police investigating the murder of 43-year-old Derby man Johnny Assani have charged two more people in connection with his death. Mr Assani, who lived in the Peartree area, suffered serious injuries when he was assaulted on Walbrook Road in the city on Sunday afternoon. He died in the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham on Monday. A 33-year-old man appeared before magistrates' yesterday charged with murder. He was remanded in custody until August 22, when he will appear before Nottingham Crown Court. Police have also now charged two men, both aged 32 and from Derby, with murder and they are due to appear before magistrates' today.

Two Women Found Dead In Sheffield
The bodies of a mother and daughter have been found at a house in Hemsworth, in Sheffield. The discovery was made by police at an address on Ironside Road at 0740 BST. A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being questioned by police. The area around the property has been sealed off.

UK sees 20% increase in multiple births over 10 years
Mothers are having 20% more multiple births than they were a decade ago, according to figures released today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Statistics have revealed that in 2002, the multiple birth rate was 15 per 1,000 women giving birth, compared with 12.5 in 1992.

Three Remanded Over Sunderland Street Murder
Three people have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a man with learning difficulties who was beaten to death in Sunderland. Brent Martin, 23, died in hospital after being attacked by a gang in the Town End Farm estate. He was found in the street by police suffering from multiple injuries.

Emergency contraception ‘does not encourage’ unsafe sex
The sale of the ‘morning-after’ pill over the counter in the UK has not increased its use or changed patterns of use, a new study has found. Emergency hormonal contraception (EHC) has been available without prescription to British women aged 16 or over since January 2001, costing between £20-£25.

Man Arrested Over Broadwater Farm Shooting
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a double shooting at Broadwater Farm, Tottenham, on Sunday. Police were called after shots were heard being fired at around 23:42 on Sunday night. When police arrived, they found two men, both aged 21, suffering from gunshot wounds.
