Man Jailed After Trident Operation
A 24-year-old man was jailed on Friday for 12 years over firearms offences as a result of an investigation under the Met's Operation Trident.
Cameron Wesley Emanuel, of Willington Road, London, SW9, was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court after being found guilty of the offences on 19 July following a six-day trial.
He was sentenced to 12 years for possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, five years for possession of ammunition without a certificate, and five years for possession of a firearm, to run concurrently.
The result follows his arrest last year following a firearm being discharged in Clapham.
The Met said on Tuesday that police were called to Clapham Park Road, SW4 on 21 March 2010, after sounds of gunshots were heard.
Shell casings were found at the scene and a man was arrested in possession of a firearm. No-one was injured in the incident.
The man, Cameron Emanuel, was taken to a south London police station and charged the following day.
Detective Sergeant Paul Davis, from Operation Trident, said: “I welcome this sentence which should reassure people that the possession and use of firearms on London’s streets will not be tolerated. Operation Trident will continue working with the community to achieve these results and to help keep the public safe from gun crime.”
Operation Trident or Trident, is a Metropolitan Police Service unit set up to investigate black gun crime, with special attention being placed on shootings relating to the illegal sale of drugs.
The initiative was set up in March 1998 following a series of shootings in the London boroughs of Lambeth and Brent.
