Man Gunned Down In Liverpool
A man has died after he was gunned down in the street in Liverpool on Tuesday night.
Police found the 25-year-old victim at around 10.10pm last night in Brayfield Road, Liverpool. He has not been formally identified,
Officers were called to the area in Anfield after a member of the public reported hearing gunshots and seeing a group of men acting suspiciously.
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said the victim was found with a fatal head wound caused by a single gunshot. Patrols attended and during a search of the area, found several bullet casings in the street in Larkhill Lane.
A Home Office post mortem examination will be carried out on Wednesday to establish an exact cause of death, however detectives believe he had been shot once in the head.
Merseyside's major incident team is now investigating the circumstances of the man's death and detectives are appealing for anyone in the Brayfield Road area who saw or heard anything suspicious last night to contact police.
The victim's family have been notified and are receiving support from specially-trained family liaison officers.
Detectives are also appealing for information about an incident in the Larkhill Lane and Hedges Crescent area, which was reported to police at 10.05pm.
A Ford Mondeo parked in nearby Hedges Crescent has also been recovered by the police for forensic examination.
A police spokesman said: "At this early stage of the investigation detectives are keeping an open mind as to whether the two incidents are linked and what the motive for the murder is."
An area of Brayfield Road as well as part of Larkhill Lane and Hedges Crescent have been cordoned off for examination by crime scene investigators.
Officers are carrying house to house enquiries in both areas and examing CCTV from local shops and businesses.
High visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area to provide reassurance to the public and anyone with information is asked to call the investigation team via the Merseyside Police on 0151 709 6010 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
