Boy, 11, Sentenced Over Riots
An 11-year-old has been handed an 18-month youth rehabilitation order after stealing a bin during the recent riots. Police said the boy from Romford in east London was the youngest rioter in London to face prosecution. He committed the offence just five days after being given a referral order for arson and criminal damage in an unrelated incident. The youngster took the waste bin, which was worth £50, from Debenhams in Romford on 8 August.
Teenager Charged Over Notting Stabbing
A teenager has been charged in over the stabbing of a man at the Notting Hill Carnival. The 16-year-old appeared at West London Youth Court charged with grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. The victim, who was 20-years-old, was found suffering stab wounds to the abdomen in Ladbroke Grove, west London, as the carnival was finishing on 29 August. Four men also held over the assault have been released on police bail. The 16-year-old has been remanded in custody to reappear at West London Youth Court on 28 September.
Hospital Error 'Paralysed Newport Teen'
A hospital has admitted to leaving a teenager paralysed from the waist down after a spinal anaesthetic was wrongly left in place for too long. Sophie Tyler, 14, of Risca, near Newport, underwent gallstone surgery in Birmingham Children's Hospital in 2008, but a pain-killing epidural was left in for two days, permanently damaging her spinal cord. The hospital said it was "deeply sorry" and that it had made changes to prevent it happening again. Sophie, now 17, underwent the surgery on 27 May 2008, solicitors for her family said.

A south London man has been jailed for 25 years for tying to shoot a policeman. Michael Mitchell, 32, of Babington Road, Streatham, was convicted of attempting to murder Pc Shaun Callow, possession of a firearm and possession of drugs with intent to supply.

Man Arrested After Five-Year-Old Is Injured In Shooting Incident
An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a five-year-old boy. The child was shot and seriously injured at his home in Essex. The boy has been taken to the Royal London Hospital at around 13.20 on Sunday. His injuries are believed to be serious but not life threatening.

Man Shot By Police In East London
A man has been arrested in an east London hospital where he is being treated for gunshot wounds. It is understood that the man was shot by armed police at around 8.15pm in the Hale End Road in Walthamstow. Police had responded to reports of a man with a handgun.

There has been a further arrest in connection with the murder of a teenager in south London. Police were called after midnight on Saturday 29 January following reports of an assault close to East Dulwich rail station.

A Romford man has been charged with the murder of a 14-month-old boy. The alarm was raised after the baby was pronounced dead at an east London hospital on Thursday afternoon. Post-mortem tests revealed he died from a blunt trauma injury to the abdomen. Nathan Allen, 26, from Romford, was due to appear at Havering Magistrates' Court on Monday.
