Bristol Police 'Clean-up

Police officers have successfully have tracked down more than 50 of Bristol's most wanted criminals this month in an operation to target repeat offenders. As part of Avon and Somerset's ongoing Operation Relentless, the work aims to tackle seasonal increases in priority crimes like burglary, robbery, car theft and shoplifting. Crime analysts identified areas where an increase in these types of crime was most likely and which people were the most likely to commit crimes in these areas, based on their offending behaviour. Teams of officers were then tasked with proactively tracking down and arresting these wanted people.

Trains Stuck In Tunnels

Several trains were this morning trapped in tunnels under the Mersey with thousands of commuters left stuck on board trains after signal failure halted services across Merseyside's local rail network. About 40 trains, each containing up to 200 passengers, were unable to move after contractors cut a signal cable at the control centre at about 8.50am. Services in Liverpool and Wirral, including those running under the River Mersey, were affected.

Army Train Afghan Police

Soldiers from 2nd Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles (2 RGR) have been training new, elite teams of Afghan Uniform Police (AUP) in Helmand province, southern Afghanistan. The Provincial Response Companies (PRCs) are specially trained Afghan tactical units which will be called upon to deal with specific incidents in various parts of Helmand province. Reporting to the Provincial Chief of Police, the teams will be responsible for high-risk arrests and deliberate operations in areas where there is a high level of insurgent activity.

Drugs Stolen From Vets

West Yorkshire Police are seeking those responsible for a theft of drugs stolen from a vet, in Leeds Road, Wakefield last night. The drugs were taken between 9pm last night and 8.50am this morning. They said some of the items stolen can be harmful to humans, in particular, phenobarbital.

Ladbrooke Grove train crash case to go ahead
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has begun its prosecution of Thames Trains Limited for alleged breaches of health and safety law in connection with the Ladbroke Grove rail collision. HSE made public its intention to prosecute both Thames Trains Limited and Railtrack PLC (now Network Rail) in March 2002.

'Top Up' Eases Rail Journeys
