Terror Charges For Court

Six men will be in court in London today after being charged with terrorism offences, including a suspected suicide bombing campaign, West Midlands Police have said. Intellectual Property Protected

A new guide for businesses to make sure they don't fall foul of intellectual property laws has been launched. Preventing Infringement of Intellectual Property (IP) Rights in the Workplace provides companies with advice on how they can make sure they and their employees are not illegally using other people's intellectual property. Copyright, patent, trademark or design infringement could result in civil action or, in some cases of trademark and copyright infringement criminal action being taken against the offending individual or company. If found guilty under criminal law, offenders are liable to a fine of up to £50,000 and/or a prison sentence of up to ten years. The online guide was announced by Minister for Intellectual Property Baroness Wilcox during a visit to the Scottish Intellectual Property (IP) Crime Group in Glasgow. The group is formed from intellectual property specialists, police and trading standards officers who meet on a regular basis to discuss IP crime issues.

Royal Navy Work Shoots Ahead

Work is underway to construct a new ammunitioning jetty in Portsmouth Harbour to service the Royal Navy's surface ships, including the new Type 45 destroyers, into the 21st century. Once complete, the £18m Upper Harbour Ammunitioning Facility will allow Royal Navy warships to load up with ammunition and will replace the existing jetty, which was built in 1929. The facility, which includes two hydraulic cranes and mooring pontoons, will measure 85 metres by 15 metres and will accommodate ships up to 10,000 tonnes. It can be used in winds of up to Force Six. Once it is operational, by the middle of next year, the old jetty will be demolished.
