Cricket Agent Jailed For Betting Scam

A cricket agent has been jailed for nearly three years for his part in a betting scam.

Mazhar Majeed has been jailed for two years and eight months for the Pakistan betting scam.Former Pakistan Test cricket captain Salman Butt was jailed for 30 months for his part in the conspiracy to bowl deliberate no-balls in the Lord's game.Former world number two Test bowler Mohammad Asif was jailed for one year.

English Diet 'Healthier'

New research has revealed that if people adopted an English diet it could save up to 4,000 lives every year. Oxford University experts carrying out the study say that people in England have a healthier lifestyle and they eat more fresh fruit and vegetables while having a lower salt and fat intake.

Mother Pays Tribute To Murdered Daughter

The mother of a 28-year-old woman who was suffocated by her husband in Greater Manchester has paid tribute to her "beautiful" daughter. Pornpilai Nehls, who had a two-year-old daughter, was killed at her home in Maple Crescent, Leigh on 26 April. Her husband Rickie La-Touche, also known as Rickie Nehls, was found guilty of her murder at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday. He was jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 12 years in prison. Ms Nehls's mother, Tui Srisoi, said: "Although small in stature she had a big heart and brought happiness to her friends and family. "She was also a talented artist and a loving mother to her daughter, aged only two years. She will be sorely missed."

Three Hospitalised After Mine Collapse

Two men have been taken to hospital and another treated for shock after a collapse at a mine. It took an hour to rescue the men from the Aberpergwm colliery near Glynneath, Neath Port Talbot, using an underground lift system. A trench is believed to have collapsed at around 03:06 GMT, three to four miles underground. One man suffered back injuries.

Mother And Lover Jailed For Killing Eight-Year-Old Daughter
A mother and her lesbian lover have been jailed for killing her eight-year-old daughter in east London. Ayesha Ali was found dead in her bedroom with over 50 injuries on her body. Her mother, Polly Chowdury, was sentenced to 13 years behind bars for manslaughter. Her lover, Kiki Muddar, received 18 years for the same offence.

Rhys Killer's Mother Jailed For Three Years
The mother of the teenager convicted of murdering Liverpool schoolboy Rhys Jones, has been jailed for three years. Janette Mercer, 49, admitted perverting the course of justice at Liverpool Crown Court in February.

Men Jailed For Mother And Daughter Gunpoint Attack
Two men who subjected a young mother and her three-year-old daughter to a gunpoint robbery in their own home have been sentenced today. The pair were given jail time, at Woolwich Crown Court, following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police's Trident South Shootings Team.

Man Jailed For Stabbing Six-Year-Old
A 29-year-old man has been jailed for four years after he admitted stabbing a six-year-old girl and her mother. Robert Knox, a former health care worker, stabbed the girl in the chest and her mother in the hand at the house in the Bellfields area of Guildford. The mother and daughter involved in the incident, on 9 June, cannot be named.

77 Years For Rochdale Child Sex Gang
The nine men found guilty of operating a child sexual exploitation ring have been jailed for a total of 77 years. The trial, which ended on Tuesday, heard how the men groomed young vulnerable girls in Rochdale.
