British Soldier Killed In Afghanistan
As the traditional Remembrance Sunday commemorations loom across the UK, a British soldier has been shot dead after his patrol came under attack from insurgents, according to the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
He was from The Mercian Regiment and was killed in the Nahr-e Saraj area, Helmand province. while on an operation to maintain freedom of movement for the local population.
Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Mackenzie said: "The death of this brave soldier is a tragedy which has affected us all.
"His loss will be deeply felt by his family, friends and loved ones, and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time."
His family have been informed.

Sergeant Christian Hickey, of the 1st Battalion the Coldstream Guards, died as a result of his injuries, following the explosion, which took place around 11:23 local time in Basra on Tuesday night.
