Motorway Closure Follows 20 Tonne Marmite Spillage
A major clean-up operation is underway after over 20 tonnes of Marmite, a yeast extract, was spilled on the M1 in South Yorkshire.
The tanker believed to be carrying the Marmite overturned on the dual carriageway at around 22.00hrs on Monday night, spilling its contents.
According to the BBC a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said the tanker overturned after being involved in a collision with a motor caravan.
They also reported that the tanker driver was taken to hospital but the driver's injuries were not believed to be serious.
Police closed the motor way at junctions 32 and 33 near Sheffield following the incident and it is hoped that the road will reopen at 10.00am today.
Meanwhile the Telegraph reported that Marmite became the top trending term on Twitter this morning after the spillage.
