Neighbours Aid Murdered Pensioner's Probe
Residents of the village were a pensioner was killed during a mugging have joined forces to help the police search for her killer.
Nellie Geraghty, 79, died following a mugging for her handbag on Novermber 24 in Oldham,Greater Manchester. It is understood that the pensioner tried to protect the bag as it contained her late husband’s ashes which she had carried with her for nearly two decades.
She was found in an alleyway leading from Elizabeth Grove to Kershaw Street but died in hospital the next day.
Residents have offered to help police search the area near the scene of the crime. Police have been given a list of items to search for which were believed to be in the still missing handbag.
Two boys, aged 14 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of murder and have been bailed until 9 January.
According to a report by the Mirror the duo arrested on suspicion of murder apparently told police they were in the area but had nothing to do with the robbery.
The Mirror’s report also said now the boys have been released “tensions are so high detectives fear angry neighbours may take the law into their own hands.
"There’s concern about the potential for vigilante attacks. The youths were arrested after a passer-by who found Nellie, saw two teenagers running away."

A gardener has been jailed for life after being found guilty of the murder of 54-year-old Lynda Casey from Coulsdon in Surrey. Ms Casey's body was found by police search teams in an area of Banstead Woods in Surrey known as Great Solom’s Wood on 13 August 2009. A post mortem examination showed she had suffered multiple head injuries.

Remains Found In Search For Murdered Wife
Human remains have been discovered by officers searching for Kate Prout, who was murdered by her husband in 2007. Gloucestershire police said on Thursday evening that Adrian Prout took police to Redhill Farm at Redmarley, in Gloucestershire at the end of last week to show them where he had buried his wife's body.

London bombings ‘suspect’ charged
A man arrested last weekend in connection with the July 7 London bombings has been charged with wasting police time. Imran Patel, 27, from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, was arrested last Saturday, on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism. The arrest followed a tip-off from the ‘News of the World’.
